PIX 2-Factor Authentication

What is 2-factor Authentication?

Two-factor Authentication (2FA) provides an additional layer of protection to PIX by requiring a second level of authentication when logging in.

When 2FA is enabled for an account, a username, password, and a user-specific authentication code must be entered in order to log in to your PIX account.

Project administrators can require 2FA for user accounts on their projects, or users can opt to enable 2FA for their accounts.

How does 2FA work?

If 2FA is enabled for your PIX account, when you log in, you will enter your username and password as usual, and then will be prompted to enter the 6-digit app-generated authentication code. You will not be able to log in without entering the authentication code.

To obtain a 2FA authentication code, you must download a third party authentication application to your mobile device or desktop. The application is then linked with your PIX account to provide authentication code/token to complete your log in to PIX.

How do I get a 2FA app?

2FA apps are widely available providing an additional layer of security for login.

Authentication apps can be installed on mobile devices or desktops, depending on which app you choose. (PIX does not use SMS text messaging for 2FA codes.)

Google Authenticator is a commonly used and recommended 2FA app. (See detailed instructions for using Google Authenticator on iOS or Android.)

How do I link my PIX account and my 2FA app?

After you download and install a 2FA app, on your desktop go to the PIX login page. If you're required to use 2FA you'll be prompted to 'Link your PIX account' after you've entered your username and password. Otherwise, you'll need to go to your Account Settings and select the Setup Authentication Device(s).

Using the "scan barcode" option within the 2FA app, you can use your device's camera to capture the barcode/QR code displayed on the screen.

If scanning is not available, click 'Barcode scanning not available?' to expose a 32-digit authentication key. Using your keyboard, enter the authentication code in your app.

Your app and PIX account will then be linked.

How do I get a 2FA code to log in to PIX?

After linking your 2FA app and your PIX account, the app will start generating six-digit authentication codes for PIX.

Each authentication code remains valid for 30 seconds (this interval can vary by app) and then the app will display a new one.

After entering your username and password to log in to PIX, enter the valid app-generated code when prompted.
